Bulls Fall At Canisius, 3-1
BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team dropped its second straight contest, losing its final non-conference match to Canisius, 3-1. The loss evens UB's record at 8-8 on the season.
The Golden Grififns took the match 25-22, 19-25, 26-24, 26-24 as the teams hit nearly identical with Canisius holding the slim advantage, .209 to .208.
The storyline was the same during the first two sets as the team leading for the majority was unable to close things out. For the Bulls it was the first set that they were unable to close out, and for Canisius, it was the second. The Bulls led 17-11 in the opening set before a 12-3 Canisius run gave it the lead.
Canisius led 15-11 in the second set before the Bulls ended the set on a 14-4 run to tie things up going into the break.
Both the third and fourth sets were extremely competitive, but Canisius took both by identical 26-24 scores.
The Bulls were led by 12 kills from freshman Liz Scott and 10 kills from Abby Niekamp. Dana Musil added eight kills, while Alessandra Jovy-Heuser and Carissa McKenna each added seven kills. McKenna came off the bench for the final three sets, adding a career-high tying eight blocks. As a team, UB had 12 team blocks as Scott added five.
The Bulls will resume Mid-American Conference action this weekend as they head to Miami (OH) on Friday night for a meeting with the RedHawks. The match gets under way at 7:00 pm.
