BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team was picked to finish in third place in the MAC East, the Mid-American Conference announced on Friday afternoon. The poll was voted on by the 12 head coaches in the league.
The preseason ranking is the highest ever for UB since joining the Mid-American Conference. The Bulls are coming off a 16-16 season, including the team's first ever victory at the MAC Tournament. The Bulls welcome back six players from last season, while also adding six newcomers to the mix. The recruiting class was UB's best ever as it was ranked by Prepvolleyball.com in it highest honorable mention list, tied for the highest ranking in the MAC.
"It is great to see the other coaches recognize the progress we are making here at Buffalo," said head coach Todd Kress, "but as I told the team it doesn't matter what it say on paper, we need to go out and compete."
Ohio was picked to finish first in the MAC East with 10 first place votes. Miami was picked second, while the Bulls were pegged third. Kent State, Bowling Green and Akron round out the division.
Central Michigan was picked to finish first in the MAC West with seven first place votes, while Western Michigan was picked second. Northern Illinois, Toledo, Ball State and Eastern Michigan completed the West Division.
The Bulls begin the 2010 season on Saturday, Aug. 28 when they head to the West Virginia Tournament for three matches.
