Women’s Soccer Announces 2013 Recruiting Class
The University at Buffalo announced six signings for their 2013 recruiting class this morning. The signees include three New York natives, two players from New Jersey, and one from Colorado. Joining the Bulls for next season will be Andrea Niper, Jennifer Colvin, Dana Lytle, Ashley Evans, Kori Hughes, and Celina Carrero.

Shannon Algoe Named to Academic All-MAC Team
Senior defender Shannon Algoe was named to the Mid-American Conference's All-Academic team on Monday, becoming a three-time honoree for the Bulls. She becomes the first three-time honoree for the team since Andrea Vescio, who won three straight from 2006-08. The team also put five others on the honorable mention team.

Kristin Markiewicz Named to All-MAC Freshman Team
After a season where she stepped into a major starting role on the defense and also scored a pair of goals, defensive back Kristin Markiewicz was named to the Mid-American Conference's All-Freshman team, as announced by the conference Thursday evening.

Bulls Lose Out on Playoff Berth With Overtime Loss
In typical Mid-American Conference fashion, the final game of the regular season held great significance Thursday afternoon, with the Buffalo Bulls (5-12-2, 3-7-1 MAC) hosting the Akron Zips (6-11-1, 2-8-1 MAC) with a chance to clinch the final seed in the upcoming postseason tournament. After gaining a late lead, the Bulls allowed the Zips to tie and force overtime before giving up a golden goal just over 70 seconds into overtime to lose 2-1.

Velez Lifts Bulls to Dramatic Win
Stephanie Velez came to Buffalo with one of the most dynamic seasons a freshman has ever had, but after injuries wiped out her sophomore season, she returned to a key reserve role and the heart of the team. In her second to last game playing in UB Stadium on Sunday afternoon, she regained that spark and scored the game-winning goal on a free kick in the 86th minute of a 1-0 win over Western Michigan.

Bulls Lose to Eastern Michigan, 1-0
The opportunities were there, but the Buffalo women's soccer team were unable to convert Friday evening in a 1-0 loss to Eastern Michigan. The loss drops the Bulls to 4-11-2 overall and, more importantly, 2-6-1 in the Mid-American Conference. In a game bitterly contest with equal chances by each side, the Eagles used a goal in the 75th minute to earn the win, while dealing Buffalo's conference tournament hopes a big blow.

Facing dreary weather and a strong defense in Central Michigan (11-4-1, 7-1-0 MAC), the Buffalo women's soccer team were worn down in the second half, allowing three goals in a 3-0 loss. The loss snaps a two-game winning streak for the team in Mid-American Conference play and drops UB to 4-10-2 this season.

In a part of the Mid-American Conference season where every point is viciously contested, the Buffalo women's soccer team claimed three on Friday night, coming from behind to beat the Bowling Green Falcons 2-1 on the road. Kristin Markiewicz scored a late first-half goal to tie the game, and Taylor Thompson scored the eventual game-winner in the 80th minute.

Needing to close out its weekend with three points to remain in the Mid-American Conference tournament chase, the Buffalo women's soccer team (3-9-2, 1-4-1 MAC) faced an Ohio Bobcat team (7-6-1, 2-3-1 MAC) that had lost only one home match all season. Courtney Mann converted a penalty kick in the 18th minute and the Buffalo defense carried the team the rest of the way for a 1-0 win.

The Mid-American Conference season began for the UB women's soccer team Friday at Ball State in a fashion the hard-luck Bulls have been all too familiar with this season. After Courtney Mann opened the scoring with her first collegiate goal, the Bulls conceded goals in the 76th and 80th minutes to the Cardinals and lost 2-1 in the first game of a critical conference slate.

The Buffalo women's soccer team wrapped up play at the Niagara University Fall Classic Sunday afternoon, losing 2-1 to St. Francis (PA) thanks to a pair of second-half goals coming off rebounds. Katie Roberts netted her third goal of the season early in the first half, but an opportunistic St. Francis team would rally in the final half to claim the win.

After finding its rhythm late in the first half, the Bulls (0-1_ and Raiders found themselves embroiled in a highly competitive game before a late goal sealed a 2-1 win for Colgate (1-0). Freshman defender Kristen Markiewicz scored the team's lone goal in her first collegiate game, and junior goalie Ainsley Wheldon kept the team in it with seven saves against the aggressive visitor's attack.

The 2012 women's soccer season kicked off Sunday afternoon, with the Bulls traveling to Cleveland for its lone exhibition game of the year, facing the Cleveland State Vikings. In a physical warm-up match before this coming Friday's home and regular-season opener, the Bulls displayed its usual stout defense and found a wealth of offense from its bench to secure the win.

The 2012 Bulls will enter the season in a fresh new world, having completed the largest season-to-season turnaround in program history and one of the largest RPI (ratings percentage index) jumps in the nation. After winning just one game in 2010, the team went 12-5-4 to make the Mid-American Conference tournament for the first time since 2003, and made it all the way to the Mid-American Conference semifinals.
