Late Goal Lifts UB Over Niagara in Home Opener

BUFFALO, NY – In its home opener Wednesday night, the University at Buffalo women's soccer team defeated local rival Niagara in a thriller that came down to the final 90 seconds. Freshman duo Katie Kerr and Taylor Thompson connected to score the only goal of the game at the 88:48 mark to give Buffalo their first win of the season.

Kerr scored her first career goal with an arching shot over the Niagara goalkeeper to give the Bulls the 1-0 edge. The game was a complete team effort with eight Buffalo players earning shots on the night.

Each team had their fair share of chances in the first half, but went to halftime scoreless. Buffalo had a chance in the 80th minute of play as Aubrey Stahl challenged the Niagara defense but came up short as the shot hit the crossbar. Stahl and Martina Pettenuzzo each had two shots for Buffalo.

The backline of Angela Nicholas, Jennifer Mihok and Kristen Bailey combined with UB goalkeeper Amy Coron to give the Bulls the shutout. Coron had seven saves in net.

The Bulls will be back in action at home on Sunday, September 13 against Binghamton. The match is set for noon at UB Stadium
