UB Bulls Alumnae To Compete in the Head of the Charles Regatta

BUFFALO, NY – An Alumnae 8 boat was selected from a lottery to compete in the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston on Saturday, October 20.

UB's boat will consist of coxswain Dawn Vona (Kavanaugh), Sara Corona (Sheffer) and Amy Aldridge, graduates of the class of 2004. As well as members of the class of 2005, Kasey Hansen, Michelle Miecznikowski (Schwach), Kali Spoto, Tara Celestini, Caitlin Rush (Logue) and bow Ginelle Brown (Michael).

These Alumnae will be competing with 1,980 other crews from 36 states and 21 countries, representing 375 cities, although UB's boat will only be facing off with 34 in its event.  This race will be the largest two-day headrace (5K) in the world.

The boat looks forward to representing the blue and white once again, even competing against some familiar foes from its college days.  The qualification could not have come at a better time for the rowers' as it is the 40th anniversary year of Title IX.

UB's Athletics Development office is co-sponsoring the boat by covering the registration fees.

Stay tuned into buffalobulls.com for results of the race as well as a feature on what these former student-athletes are up to today.
