Women's Rowing Opens the Fall Season at Home

Buffalo, NY -- The University at Buffalo rowing team took to Tonawanda Creek for its first race of the fall season. The Bulls looked strong against local competitors Canisius and D'Youville.

             The morning featured eight boats in a 5K, with each boat starting every 30 seconds.  UB had a strong showing with all six of its boats that took part in the race. The Bulls Varsity Eight "A" boat won the race with a time of 18:28. The winning boat consisted of coxswain Emily Glasgow, Veronika Kwinecki. Melissa Ward, Heide MacMahon, Mackenzie Turpin, Hayley Franco, Shannon David, Rosa Kemp and Justine Bottorff.

            The UB Varsity Eight "B" squad took home second place with a time of 18:51.  This boat included coxswain Kara Buchheit, Danielle Carlino, Brittany Davidson, and Stephanie Iannacchino. The Varisty Eight "C" team placed fourth at 19:40 with coxswain Katie Boniello, Jordyn Phillips, Elizabeth Murphy, Jessica Levy, Bethany Cross, Alyssa Gabel, Sara-Ann Fox, Kylie Lewis and Alexa Shoiock.

            The Bulls Lightweight Eight finished fifth with a time of 19:44.  This boat consisted of coxswain Christine Proulx, Margaret Lawn, Hanna Victor, Raleigh Galbraith, Francisca Strange-Sepulveda, Clare Costello, Megan Klyczek, Katie Coffin and Lauren Pepe. The Varsity Eight "D" boat finished sixth at 20:03 with coxswain Cox – Emily Niemel, Cassandra Nicolia, Erica Tenteromano, Amber Gurman, Gabrielle Ormond, Olivia Gane, Bailey Gillies, Emily Daigler and Arielle Fleming.

Canisius who brought two Varsity Eight boats finished third ("A" boat) and seventh ("B" boat while D'Youville took Eighth place.

The Bulls return to the water Saturday October 13 in Rochester at the Head of the Genesee.
