Cooper River, NJ - The University at Buffalo rowing team competed at the Murphy Cup on the Cooper River in New Jersey on Saturday afternoon. Head Coach Rudy Wieler was pleased with the results as he feels his team is continuing to improve.
"I am encouraged that we are moving in the right direction," Wieler said. "We want to have four solid weights, moving forward."
The lightweight eight boat of Katherine Evely, Margaret Lawn, Megan Klyczek, Julia Hahn, Cornelia Willis, Katie Coffin, Jean Kang, Haley Bryk and Jessica Ashbaugh cruised to an easy victory with a time of 8:06.19. The Bulls finished over 21 seconds ahead of second-place Temple. They also defeated Lafayette and Massachusetts in the race.
The varsity eight boat won its heat with a time of 7:45.38, six seconds ahead of second-place Saint Joseph's, to advance to the finals. Consisting of Alison Sheehan, Jacklyn Postulka, Hannah Miller-Selzer, Rosa Kemp, Heide MacMahon-Manning, Deborah Garth, Shannon David, Sydney Gilchrist and Brittany Ronald, the Bulls finished third in the finals with a time of 7:47.08.
