Complete Foot of The Charles Results
BOSTON, MA - The University at Buffalo rowing team completed it fall season on Saturday afternoon, posting solid results at the Foot of the Charles. This challenging meet included Brown University, who was last year's NCAA Champion, as well as another NCAA Championship meet team in Radcliffe. It was also a good meet for UB to check out some conference foes as fellow CAA schools Northeastern and Boston University were there.
The morning started with the Varsity Four race where UB's "A" boat finished in fifth place at a time of 14:13.5. The boat consisted of coxswain Alison Sheehan, Jacklyn Postulka, Heide MacMahon-Manning, Rosa Kemp and Shannon David. UB's "B" finished in 12th place, while UB's Lightweight "A" boat finished in 15th. It was a solid performance from the lightweights, whose boat had coxswain Katherine Evely, Margaret Lawn, Briana Reinecke, Julia Hahn and Cornelia Willis.
The "A" boats finish was was the best ever in school history and is the same boat that set a course record earlier in the season.
"That result was a significat achievement for our program and this group of ahtletes should set the stage for the building of a solid varsity 8 in the spring," said head coach Rudy Wieler.
The event also consisted of two Eights races, beginning with the Novice Eight race. UB had one entry, finishing 10th in the race.
The Foot of the Charles concluded with the Third Varsity Eight race. The Bulls placed fourth in the race at 14:11.5 as they were led by Sheehan, who also served as coxswain in the afternoon race. The boat also had Kylie Lewis, Rachel Cuthbert, Veronika Kwinecki, Bethany Cross, Gabrielle Ormond, Hayley Franco, Stephanie Iannacchino and Francisa Strange-Sepulveda.
"Overall I was extremely pleased with our 4 results, repeating that 2 best ever performances is a great building block going into the winter and spring," Wieler added.
The Bulls will be back in action in the Spring as they complete their 2011-12 season.
