Bulls Have Strong Showing at the Syracuse Invite

SYRACUSE, NY – The University at Buffalo rowing team had a total of nine boats competing at the Syracuse Invite on Saturday afternoon and head coach Rudy Wieler was pleased with how each of his boats performed.

 

"The kids all rowed pretty well today, Wieler said. "We were pleased with the results and it is a good measuring stick of what to expect this season." 

In the Varsity 4 race, Buffalo's "A" boat finished with a time of 19:54.5. Made up of Alison Sheenan, Jacklyn Postulka, Heide MacMahon-Manning, Rosa Kemp and Shannon David, the "A" boat finished just six seconds behind second-place Cornell. Host Syracuse won the race with a time of 19:30.0.

 

Buffalo's "B" boat, consisting of Emily Glasgow, Hannah Miller-Selzer, Brittany Ronald, Sydney Gilchrist and Danielle Carlino, finished sixth of 14 boats with a time of 20:34.6.  

Buffalo's Lightweights finished eighth with a time of 20:51.4. The Lightweight boat was made up of Katherine Evely, Margaret Lawn, Julia Hahn, Cornelia Willis and Briana Reinecke.

 

In the B flight, Buffalo's "D" boat finished second with a time of 20:53.1. Consisting of Kara Buchheit, Sarah Gallagher, Deborah Garth, Elizabeth Murphy and Kaitlyn Koscielniak, the Bulls finished second to host Syracuse. 

Also in the B flight, Buffalo's "F" boat, made up of Alison Sheenan, Kylie Lewis, Bethany Cross, Hayley Franco and Stephanie Iannacchino, placed fifth with a time of 21:16.9.

 

Alyssa Porter, Rachel Cuthbert, Gabrielle Ormond, Veronika Kwinecki and Francisca Strange-Sepulveda made up Buffalo's "E" boat and finished ninth with a time of 21:55.9. 

In the Novice 8 race, Buffalo's top finisher was its "A" boat made up of Katie Boniello, Alexa Shoiock, Justine Bottorff, Melissa Ward, Bridget Whalen, Alyssa Gabel, Sara Fox, Jessica Levy and Jordyn Phillips. They finished third of eight boats with a time of 21:02.5. Cornell won the race with a time of 18:53.9.

 

The Buffalo Lightweights finished fourth with a time of 21:38.2. The Lightweights consisted of Emily Niemel, Haley Byrk, Hannah Blackington, Kayleigh Bemisderfer, Jessica Ashbaugh, Katie Coffin, Jean Kang, Emily Valentine and McKenzie Kern. 

Buffalo's "B" boat, consisting of Christine Proulx, Bailey Gillies, Amber Gurman, Emily Daigler, Colleen Lang, Holly Ross, Kirjah Huff, Cassandra Nicolia and Olivia DiPalma, finished seventh with a time of 22:35.8.

 

The Bulls will conclude the fall portion of their schedule next Saturday when they compete at the Foot of the Charles in Boston.
