BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo rowing team has signed a pair of rowers to National Letters of Intent head coach Rudy Weiler has announced. Alyssa Gabel and Emily Glasgow will join the Bulls beginning next season.
"The UB rowing team started is recruiting process by signing two athletes to our team for next year who we feel will make an immediate contribuiton to our varsity top 20 group," Weiler said.
Gabel hails from Fairport, NY where she rowed for Fairport High School. She has earned three varsity letters and is a team captain for the Red Raiders. Gabel earned the Coaches Award in the spring of 2010 and she helped lead the novice squad to an undefeated season.
Gabel also rows for Rochester Navy for head coach Andrew Thomas. She helped lead the Navy to a sixth place finish at the Canadian Henley.
"Alyssa Gabel has been a consistent quiet leader in her program. She possesses the size, erg score and determination to work her way towards being a strong varsity candidate," Weiler said.
Glasgow is from Kenmore, NY and attended Mt. St. Mary Academy. She rowed for the West Side Rowing Club. A coxswain, she helped lead the Thunder to state championships in 2007, 2009 and 2010. Glasgow competed in the Royal Canadian Henley five straight years and rowed at the U.S. Rowing Youth Nationals in 2009 and 2010 and the U.S. Rowing Club Nationals in 2010.
"Emily Glasgow comes to us with a wealth of experience and strong racing background. She is a very determined and hard worker who wants to become a 1st varsity coxswain,"Weiler said.
