Rowing Starts Season with a Strong Showing at the Head of the Genesee
BUFFALO NY – Highlighted by a second place finish by the Varsity 8 "A" Boat, it was a strong start to the season for the University at Buffalo rowing team at the Head of the Genesee on Saturday.
In the open race, UB's Varisty 8 "A" Boat finished in second place with a time of 32:36.56. The Bulls finished just 45 seconds behind Duke University and beat out teams from Syracuse and Cornell. The Varsity 8 "A" Boat consisted of coxswain Alison Sheehan, Rosa Kemp, Shannon David, Lindsay DiCosimo, Susannah Sage Green, Jacklyn Postulka, Heide MacMahon Manning, Sydney Gilchrist and Brittany Ronald.
Buffalo's Varsity 8 "B" Boat, consisting of coxswain Katherine Evely, Danielle Carlino, Elizabeth Rutowski, Hannah Miller-Selzer, Sarah Gallagher, Francisca Strange-Sepulveda, Ashley Hanhurst, Kelsey Tretter, and Kaitlyn Koscielniak finished fifth in the race with a time of 33:09.22 – edged out by a mere three seconds by Syracuse who finished in fourth.
The Lightweight 8 Boat also competed in the race with the top group and finished a respectable eighth. The Lightweight 8 consists of coxswain Taylor Drozenski, Hannah Blackington, Gina Giammichele, Barbara Prescott, Julia Hahn, Annastasia Hirt, Cornelia Willis, Emily Marshall and Megan Klyczek.
UB's Novice 8 Boat won its race with a time of 19:21.93. The boat consists of coxswain Emily Chisholm, Erin McMullen, Samantha Palma, Ariel Regnier, Gabrielle Ormond, Jacqueline Bobo, Hayley Franco, Jessica Ashbaugh, Alyssa Porter.
Buffalo will continue the fall portion of its schedule on Nov. 6 at the Syracuse Invitational.
