Bulls Sign Six For 2010-11 Season

BUFFALO, NY – Head rowing coach Rudy Wieler has announced the addition of six student-athletes for the upcoming 2010-11 season. The six incoming Bulls will add to a UB team that is coming off its first ever conference championship in the Colonial Athletic Association and its third straight Dad Vail Regatta points title.

 

"I am very happy to bring in six individuals that will help us grow to new successes in the near future," said Wieler. "Our hopes and expectation for this incoming class should assist us in continuing our climb to NCAA Championship participation and much more."

 

The six person class is listed below:

 

Brittany Davidson (Hamilton, Ontario/St. Mary's), 5'8.5", 141 lbs. 
Davidson has rowed at St. Mary's for four years and she has also had one fall and one summer rowing season at Hamilton Leander B.C. Her race results include two silvers and a bronze at Canadian Schoolboy Championships and a third in the U23 Lwt. 2- at the Canadian Henley last year. She has been voted Leander Novice Oarswomen of the year and St. Mary's MVP in rowing. Davidson is an excellent student and looks to pursue a Political Science degree at UB.

 

Veronika Kwinecki (St. Catharines, Ontario/Governor Simcoe), 6'0", 168 lbs. 
Kwinecki has rowed for four years and had one summer of rowing. Much of Kwinecki's focus and success has come in basketball where she has been an All-Ontario AAA champion in basketball with her high school and a top 10 all-star team selection. Kwinecki has been a strong student and plans on a history degree with a focus on teaching.

 

Sage Green (Buffalo, NY/City Honors), 6'0", 165 lbs.
Green has been a competitive rower in the club program at West Side RC for five years including four summers and four falls. She has been a Henley gold winner two times. In 2009 she was a US selection camp/junior national high performance team participant. She has also been a Varsity basketball player at City Honors and city champ in basketball.

 

Heide MacMahon-Manning (Ridgeville, Ontario/E.L. Crossley), 5'8", 165 lbs. 
MacMahon-Manning has four years of high school rowing as well as three summers and three fall seasons. She is a Jr. 2x winner at the Stotesbury Cup, a gold medal winner in the Jr.B4+ at the Canadian Henley and a bronze medal winner in the junior 4 at the Head of the Charles Regatta. She has been selected as both Most Improved Oarswoman and Most Valuable Oarswomen at South Niagara Rowing Club. Besides rowing, MacMahon-Manning has also been an accomplished soccer player for many years. She has been involved with food drives and fund raisers in the community. She is an honors student who is looking to study chemistry at UB with the goal of becoming a doctor.

 

Hannah Miller-Selzer (Ottawa, Ontario/Colonel By), 5'11", 148 lbs. 
Miller-Selzer is in her third season of competitive rowing. She has been a finalist in the Canadian Henley, women's Jr. 8 and a top 10 performer in the Women's Jr. 4+ at the Head of the Charles, both of these results accomplished with the West Side R.C. This past year she moved to Ottawa and now rows for her high school and the Ottawa R.C. Miller-Selzer has completed the International Baccalaureate program and has been an Honor's Society member in high school. Her study interest at UB is International Studies and Development.

 

Elizabeth Rutowski (Buffalo, NY/Nardin Academy), 5'9", 170 lbs. 
Rutowski has rowed for four schools, fall and summer seasons for Nardin and at West Side RC. She was a Henley gold medalist in the junior B 8. Rutowski is a strong student who plans on studying Exercise Science at UB.

 

These six student-athletes join an already young squad that had five freshman racing in its top Varsity boats this past year.

 

"All of these athletes bring a wealth of experience and talent to our program and they should have an immediate impact on our Varsity squad," said Wieler. "Our coaching staff looks forward to working with them and having them fit into our program."
