Bulls Post Solid Results On First Day In Ithaca

ITHACA, NY – The University at Buffalo rowing program faced some of its stiffest competition of the year on Friday afternoon posting four second-place finishes against Michigan State and Gonzaga. The race took place on the Cayuga Inlet in Ithaca, NY.

 

UB, who received three votes in the latest Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association/USRowing poll, faced Michigan State, who is ranked seventh in the country and Gonzaga, who picked up 15 votes in the latest poll. Two of UB's second-place finishes came in the Second Varsity Eight and the Varsity Four, both contributing to UB's success in the national polls.

 

Buffalo's Second Varsity Eight boat of coxswain Alison Sheehan, Sam Masucci, Danielle Carlino, Lindsay DiCosimo, Alexandra Condon, Ashley Hanhurst, Dakota Smith, Jacklyn Postulka and Kelsey Tretter finished in 6:48.3, just nine seconds behind Michigan State. The Bulls did finish almost 20 seconds ahead of third place, Gonzaga.


In the Varsity Four, UB finished in 7:29.5, only five seconds behind Michigan State. UB's boat of coxswain Britt Marshall, Sydney Gilchrist, Megan Bayley, Sarah Gallagher and Rachel Cuthbertdefeated the Gonzaga crew, which finished in 7:46.3. 

 

The Bulls also picked up a second-place finish in the Third Varsity Eight and the Second Varsity Four. UB's Varsity Eight Boat finished in third place, clocking in at 6:33.1. Michigan State won the race at 6:15.9 and Gonzaga finished in second at 6:24.2.


UB will continue in Ithaca, NY tomorrow with morning and afternoon races. The Bulls will have races against Syracuse in the morning and then will face top-ranked Yale in the afternoon.
