Wrestling Staff Announces Summer Roster Additions
The Buffalo wrestling staff announced Thursday the addition of six new wrestlers to the 2012-13 roster. Joining the team will be transfers Ryan Howes and Joe Manna, and freshmen John Northrup, Tyler Newton, Jon Heffner, and Ryan Therrien.

Iowa Dual Highlights Exciting 2012-13 Wrestling Schedule
The Buffalo Bulls wrestling team announced its 2012-13 schedule Monday afternoon, with another season highlighted by aggressive scheduling against some of the top talent in the nation. This season, the Bulls will bring perennial powerhouse Iowa to Alumni Arena for its fourth annual Takedown Cancer event on Dec. 17. Additionally, the Bulls will be hosting the 2013 Mid-American Conference championships on March 10.

Kevin Smith Named to NWCA Academic Team for Fourth Straight Season
The National Wrestling Coaches Association has announced its annual Division I All-Academic Top 30 Teams and the NWCA Individual All-Academic wrestling team for the 2011-12 wrestling season. Graduating senior Kevin Smith was named to the team for the fourth straight season, capping his decorated career.

Tony Lock Wins NHSCA National Title
Fresh off his first New York State title, incoming wrestling recruit Tony Lock added some more hardware to his collection, winning the 182-pound title at the 2012 National High School Coaches Association Senior Tournament Sunday afternoon. The Pioneer High School senior defeated Nolan Boyd of Oklahoma 5-4 in overtime for the national championship.

Kevin Smith Named to MAC All-Academic Team
The Mid-American Conference announced its 2012 Academic All-MAC Wrestling team today, as voted by faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions. A total of 10 student-athletes were named to the team. Kevin Smith earned his fourth career honor, capping his prolific career both on the mat and in the classroom.

Lewandowski Named Co-National Leader in Tech Falls
The inaugural NCAA Wrestling Awards were handed out Saturday evening in the final session of the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, held at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, MO. Junior Mark Lewandowski joined Edinboro's Chris Honeycutt as the co-national leaders for technical falls during the 2011-12 season.

Wrestling Season Ends on Day One of NCAA Championships
Saddled with tough draws for both of its wrestlers, the Buffalo Bulls wrestling team bowed out on day one of the NCAA national championships Thursday. Max Soria lost both of his matches, while Mark Lewandowski went 1-2, losing both of his matches to top 10 seeds.

Pair of UB Recruits Excel at New York State Championship
Chris Nevinger and Tony Lock ended their high school careers on the highest of notes last weekend, with each winning a Division II NYSPHSAA Wrestling Championship. The win was Nevinger's third straight state title and he was named the tournament's most outstanding wrestler, while Lock earned a bit of revenge after finishing in second as a junior last season.

Bulls Cap Takedown Cancer Event With Visit to Carly's Club at Roswell Park
The University at Buffalo wrestling team capped off the third annual Takedown Cancer fundraiser this week with a visit to Carly's Club at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. The team toured the facilities and met with young cancer patient Lucas and his mother Maureen, who the team is supporting this season with a donation made from the $23,000 in total funds raised by the Takedown Cancer event.

Bulls End Regular Season With Win Over SIU-Edwardsville
Highlighted by a record-setting win from Kevin Smith, the Buffalo wrestling team ended its regular season Sunday afternoon with a commanding 28-10 win over Southern Illinois-Edwardsville. The Bulls won seven matches and earned bonus points in three of them. Smith's decision at 141 pounds was the 52nd of his career, moving him into sole possession of first place on the program's career dual meet wins list.

Bulls Earn First Conference Win, Beat Northern Illinois
The Buffalo wrestling team picked up its first Mid-American Conference win of the season in the final day of the conference season Saturday afternoon, defeating Northern Illinois 23-14. The win was the team's first in over a month and moves its overall record to 6-14, 1-4 in the MAC, while Northern moves to 8-9 overall and 0-5 in conference duals.

The Buffalo wrestling team dropped its mid-week match on Wednesday evening to Eastern Michigan, losing 31-7. Kevin Smith's 119th career victory was the highlight of the match, as it moved him into a tie for second place on the program's career win list.

Bulls Drop Road Contest at #14 Kent State
Facing Mid-American Conference rival Kent State for the second time in three weeks, the Buffalo wrestling team dropped its dual Friday night at Kent, losing 26-9. The Bulls earned wins at 157, 165 and 174, and dropped two other tight matches by one point. The loss drops UB to 5-13 (0-3 MAC) while Kent State moves to 11-4 (4-0 MAC).

Bulls Raise over $20,000 at Takedown Cancer Dual; Fall to Ohio 22-18
Despite taking a tough 22-18 loss against the Ohio Bobcats (3-5, 2-3 MAC) Sunday afternoon, the Buffalo wrestling team (5-12, 0-2 MAC) scored a big victory off the mat, raising $20,700 for its third annual Takedown Cancer fundraiser. While the team's split the matches five apiece, the Bobcats scored two pins and a major decision. It was also senior day for UB, with the team honoring seniors Tyler Peter, Taylor Golba, and Kevin Smith.

For the first time this season and the fourth time for his career, senior Kevin Smith was named the Mid-American Conference's Wrestler of the Week. The Mexico, NY native earned the honor thanks to a dominating 4-0 weekend at the New York State Collegiate Tournament. This marks the second straight week that a UB wrestler was honored.

Pair of Titles Lead Bulls at New York State Collegiate Tournament
Individual titles from senior Kevin Smith and true freshman Jake Waste helped drive the Buffalo wrestling team to a fourth-place finish at the New York State Collegiate Tournament on Saturday, hosted by Cornell University. The victory was Smith's third in his time at UB, and he was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler. Other Bulls finishing in the top six included Blake Roulo (2nd), Sean Walton (3rd), and Justin Heiserman (5th).

After taking nearly two weeks off for the holiday season, the Buffalo wrestling team will look to turn the page to 2012 on a positive note Monday afternoon. Standing in its way will be the Binghamton Bearcats, ranked 23 in the country thanks to a 7-0 record. Due to Alumni Arena renovations, the dual will be held at Lancaster High School.

In front of a boisterous crowd at Lancaster High School, the Buffalo wrestling team battled regional rival Binghamton Monday night. The Bulls won four matches but gave up nine bonus points to fall 27-12. The loss moves UB to 2-8 while the 23rd-ranked Bearcats improve to 8-0.

Thanks in part to two losses literally in the last seconds of the match at 133 and 157 pounds, the Buffalo wrestling team opened its 2011-12 Mid-American Conference season with a 30-6 loss to eighteenth-ranked Central Michigan. The Bulls won two matches and lost four other matches by three points or less.

Four Bulls Place at Nittany Lion Open
Led by Kevin Smith's second-place finish at 141 pounds, the Buffalo wrestling team emerged from its holiday break to perform well at the Nittany Lion Open, hosted by the defending national champions in Penn State. Senior Kevin Smith became just the seventh wrestler in program history to win 100 career matches, but the 6th-ranked Michigan Wolverines proved to be too tough to overcome as Buffalo fell 27-13 Friday afternoon at Alumni Arena. UB won three of the first four matches, but Michigan used two pins and a tech fall to mount a comeback.

Senior John-Martin Cannon stormed through the 174-pound bracket to win Buffalo's lone title Sunday afternoon as the annual UB Open kicked off the 2011-12 season. Kevin Smith and Dominic Montesanti placed second in their respective brackets as seven UB wrestlers finished in the top four.

Bulls Announce 2011-12 Schedule
The 2011-12 Buffalo wrestling team will venture out into one of the toughest schedules in program history, featuring top national tournaments and duals against five teams that were ranked in the USA Today/NWCA Top 25 at the end of last season. Piled on top of that is a five-dual Mid-American Conference schedule that is always bitterly contested. After finishing third in the conference last season, Buffalo will have two home duals and a three road duals against MAC opponents.

Don "The Buffalo Bomber" Curtis to Enter the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame
Former Buffalo wrestler Don Curtis has been named as an inductee to the George Tragos/Lou Thesz Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame is located inside the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum in Waterloo, Iowa. Curtis will join Kurt Angle in the 2012 class.

UB Wrestling Hires Matt Lackey as New Head Assistant Coach
Buffalo head wrestling coach Jim Beichner has announced the hiring of new head assistant coach Matt Lackey, a former NCAA national champion. Lackey will be assuming the role immediately after spending two seasons as an assistant at Lock Haven University.
