Teresa Semalulu Named To Academic All-MAC Team
BUFFALO, NY – The Mid-American Conference announced its 2011-12 Women's Basketball Academic All-MAC team Monday, as voted by faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions. Twelve student-athletes (due to ties) were named to the Academic All-MAC team this season, each for the first time in their careers. Among those on the list is senior Teresa Semalulu, who had a break out year for the Bulls, setting career highs in every category.
After graduating with an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences in just three seasons, Semalulu began her first year of graduate school while finishing up her eligibility. As a graduate student in the Biomedical Sciences field, Semalulu had a 3.835 GPA in the Fall.
Athletically, Semalulu finished the season third on the team in scoring and tied for third in rebounding. Her 57 steals led the team, while her 63 assists were also third. Semaulu's points, rebounding, assists and steal totals her senior year were more than each of her first three seasons combined. Semalulu had a career-high 16 points against Central Michigan and added a 15-point performance on Senior Day in a win over Ohio.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
