Bulls Host Hoops Doubleheader on Saturday
BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's and women's basketball teams will host a MAC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Arena. The men will host Northern Illinois at noon followed by the women taking on Ball State at 2:30 pm.
The UB men are 12-6 overall and are riding a four-game winning streak to improve to 4-2 in MAC play to sit atop the rankings in the East Division. The Bulls are coming off a two-game road trip in which they knocked off Ohio and Western Michigan. Buffalo has used hot second-half shooting to pull out its last two victories. Against Ohio, the Bulls shot 72 percent in the second half to erase an 18-point deficit and defeat the Bobcats. In their win at Western Michigan, UB shot 71.4 percent in the second half to bounce the Broncos.
Northern Illinois comes to Alumni Arena with the nation's second-leading scorer. Xavier Silas is averaging 24.4 points per game to lead a Huskie squad that is 7-11 overall and 3-3 in MAC play.
The women's team enters Saturday's game coming off a historic win. The Bulls scored a season-high 92 points to win at Central Michigan on Wednesday in a game in which a pair of UB players reached milestones. Kourtney Brown scored 33 points to become Buffalo's all-time leading scorer (1,730 points). In addition, fellow senior Jessica Fortman scored her 1,000th career point in the win over the Chippewas. The Bulls are looking to level their record at 4-4 in conference play and earn their 11th win of the year.
Ball State is 9-11 overall and 4-3 in the MAC. Emily Maggert leads the Cardinals with 16 points and 9.4 rebounds per game.
Both games will be televised live on Time Warner Cable Sports with Ben Wagner and Mike Scott calling the action. On the radio, WECK 1230-AM will carry the men's game while WLVL 1340-AM will have the women's game.
