Bulls Return Home to Face Bowling Green
Buffalo-Bowling Green Game Notes
BUFFALO, NY - Fresh off its third conference road game of the first four, the Buffalo women's basketball team will be back in action at Alumni Arena Tuesday night against Bowling Green. The game will feature the top two scoring threats in the Mid American Conference, with Kourtney Brown facing Lauren Prochaska.
It was a banner road trip for Brown, who scored a career-high 35 points in a close loss to Miami last Wednesday and followed it up with 31 points and 16 rebounds in a win over Ohio Saturday afternoon. The win moved the team's overall record to 9-8 and 2-2 in MAC play. The team's loss to Miami was a wild affair for both offenses, with the teams combining for 183 points. Senior guard Ashley Zuber set a program record for assists in a single game after dishing out 16 in a losing effort. Zuber currently leads the conference in assists per game, passing out 6.24.
The 15-2 (3-1) Falcons have an imposing offense that will be sure to test Buffalo's fifth-ranked defense. As a team, Bowling Green averages 75.1 points per game and allows only 55.1 points per game, tops in the conference. The difference may very well rest on Buffalo's ability to out rebound its opponents, with the Bulls holding a league-best plus five rebounding margin.
On offense, Prochaska is the number one option, averaging 19.8 points per game, second only to Brown. She also leads the team on the boards, averaging six per game. The senior also shows a terrific ability to get to the free throw line and converting, making 99 of her 106 attempts for an impressive .934 free throw percentage. Tracy Pontius is another key offensive figure for Bowling Green. She leads the team with 4.2 assists per game and also averages 12.8 points.
In the last meeting between the two teams, Brown pulled down another double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds but Bowling Green earned an 81-64 win despite holding Prochaska in check throughout. The Falcons have controlled the all-time series and have won 12 straight games against Buffalo dating back to 2003.
Tip off is set for 7 pm in a critical divisional game for both teams. You can tune in to the game on 1230 WECK with Nick Mendola and Scott Wilson on the call. The men's basketball team will also be signing autographs at halftime.
