Tiffany Gowens enters her third season as an assistant coach after an impressive collegiate swimming career at Texas A&M University and a successful stint as an assistant coach.
Gowens was a two-year assistant coach for fellow men’s MAC rival school Southern Illinois University from 2007-2009, where she was the recruiting coordinator for both the men’s and women’s swimming teams and designed training plans for sprint and distance groups. Most recently, Gowens was a high school coach in Bryan, Texas where she also taught high school accounting and business, but wanted to return to the Division I coaching scene.
Gowens had a standout swimming career at Texas A&M from 2001-2005, where she was an NCAA All-American and a two-time Big 12 champion in the 1650 freestyle and 800 freestyle relay. She also set a school record in the 400 meter freestyle, while with the Aggies.
“I am extremely happy that Tiffany will be a part of our staff and the UB athletic family,” said head coach Andy Bashor. “She brings a wealth of swimming and coaching experience to UB from being a Big 12 individual champion, NCAA All-American, and coaching at successful programs. I look forward to working with Tiffany and helping us take UB swimming and diving to new heights.”
Gowens earned a bachelor of science in kinesiology with a minor in business in 2005 and earned an I-Teach-Texas Alternative Certification for Business and Physical Education for grades 8-12 in July of 2009.
