UB Divers Reach Finals of Zone Championship

CHRISTIANSBURG, VA – All three of the University at Buffalo's competing divers reached the final round of their respective events on Friday as the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships concluded its first day of action.

In the men's one-meter event, Shawn Hoffman finished 16th with a total score of 549.00 points. Hoffman had a strong preliminary round as he scored a six-dive total of 291.95 to stand eighth as the top 18 entrants in the 43-diver field moved to the championship round. In the championship round, Hoffman finished with a six-dive total of 257.05 points. Logan Shinholser of Virginia Tech won the overall competition with a combined total of 704.55 points.

In the women's three-meter event, Rachel Eckert finished 10th while Ava Giachino took 13th place. Eckert posted a final total score of 524.15 with Giachino scoring 501.20 points. Eckert placed seventh in the preliminary round with 288.20 points and scored 235.95 points in the championship round for her six-dive program. Giachino finished 18th in the prelims at 250.65 and moved up to her final spot with a score of 250.55 in the final round. Virginia Tech's Kaylea Arnett won the title with 706.55 points.

Competition continues on Saturday with the men's three-meter and women's one-meter championships. Platform diving will be held on Sunday.
