UB Swimming and Diving Teams Garner Waves of Academic Honors
BUFFALO, NY - The CSCAA (College Swimming Coaches Association of America) announced its academic awards, with both the men's and women's team making the Scholar All-America Team nod, and three women's swimmers making the individual lists. The men and women earned academic All-America team honors for the second straight semester.
Alie Schirmers and Marissa Murphy were Honorable mention Academic All Americans, while Brittney Kuras made the first team. For Schirmers, this follows her place on the Mid-American Conference's All-MAC academic team for the 2011-12 season. As a team, the women posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.28, tied for the 31st highest GPA in the nation behind overall leader Kentucky (3.36 GPA). The women's team GPA was the fourth highest of all the teams at UB.
Even though no individuals were honored on the men's team, the Bulls finished with a 3.169 GPA for the 38th highest GPA in the nation, behind overall leader Yale (3.62 GPA). Chris Berloth earned a place on the Mid-American Conference's All-MAC academic team for the 2011-12 season.
The 2012-13 season will begin Oct. 13 with the WNY Invite, hosted at the Alumni Arena Natatorium.
