Matt Hogan Qualifies For U.S. Olympic Trials
BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo swimmer Matt Hogan became the third UB member to qualify for the 2012 U.S. Swimming Olympic Trials with his performance at the U.S. Swimming National Championships this week in Palo Alto, CA.
Hogan, a junior, qualified in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 50.94 beating the cut of 51.49. He joins fellow teammates Mike Dugan and Matt Schwippert, who both qualified for the Olympic Trials last year. This past season alone, Hogan helped set school records in the 200 Freestyle, the 200 Individual Medley, the 200 Medley Relay, the 400 Medley Relay, the 400 Freestyle Relay and the 800 Freestyle Relay. The Bulls would go on to win the programs first ever MAC Championship this past March.
"We are very proud of Matt for this accomplishment," said head coach Andy Bashor. "He has trained very hard to achieve it and it shows that all of his hard work is paying off."
The National Championships go through Saturday where Hogan is joined by Schwippert as well as Phil Aronica and Josh Meints. On the women's side, incoming freshman Claudia Doyle is also competing in the 100m backstroke.
