UB Men’s Swimming and Diving Announces 2011-2012 Recruiting Class

BUFFALO, NY - The 2011 MAC Champion Men's Swimming and Diving Team has announced the addition of four talented young men to their squad from three different states, Pennsylvania, New York, and Iowa.

Head Coach Andy Bashor, the 2010-11 MAC Coach of the Year says, "Signing these four men is a direct result of the success of the men's team over the past several years culminating in our first MAC Championship.  With only losing two seniors, the addition of these men will improve and strengthen our  team.  With the hard work of my assistants, we have solidified the depth and talent of this team to continue the winning traditions set by last year's team.   We are going to have fun next year."

Joining the Bulls next season:

Travis Bohn is from Annville, PA where he attends Annville Cleona High School and swims for West Shore YMCA.  Travis was the Pennsylvania AA State champion in the 100 back and swam to a third place finish in the 200 free at the PA State Meet.  At the YMCA short course National meet Bohn posted a stellar 200 backstroke time to attain an 11th place finish.  A US Open qualifier and a YMCA select altitude training camp member, Bohn swims under the direction of Mike Gobrecht who runs one of the best YMCA programs in the country.

Coach Bashor on Travis: "Travis will strengthen and challenge our backstroke group and make it a strong event for us again at conference.  He has experience competing and training at a high level which will make everyone better."

Eric Forrester is from Canonsburg, PA where he attends Canon McMillan Senior High.  At this past Pennsylvania High School Championships Forrester was a finalist in the 100 backstroke, placing seventh and a semi-finalist in the 100 fly placing 11th.  Eric also represents Mon Valley YMCA where he capped off a stellar season at the YMCA National short course championships placing fourth in the 100 backstroke and seventh in the 100 Fly.  Eric is a US Open, Junior and Senior National qualifier who has also participated in the YMCA select altitude training camp.

Coach Bashor on Eric: "Eric is another one who will strengthen our backstroke and fly events.  With the training and competition that our team will provide, he will continue to experience success in the water."

John Nord is from Ithaca, NY where he attends Ithaca High School and swims under the direction of Reed Dewey for the Lansing Cats (LCAT).  At the New York High School Championships this past year John placed third in the 100 breaststroke and fifth in the 200 IM.  John is also a US Open and Junior National qualifier.

Coach Bashor on John:  "John will make a big impact in the breaststroke and IM events which are areas that we need depth and improvement at the conference level.  He is coming off a very successful year and will continue to do so here at UB."

Colin McAllister is from Iowa City, IA where he attends Iowa City High School.  This past season Colin capped off his senior campaign as state champion in the 200 freestyle and second place finish in the 500 freestyle.  Swimming for the Iowa City Eels Swim Club, McAllister has also attained multiple Junior National standards.

Coach Bashor on Colin: "We were looking to add a distance minded swimmer to the team and we are so happy to have landed Colin.  He had a tremendous senior year and has the growth and potential to become a very successful swimmer in the conference."
