Simmons, Marecki Attain B Cuts on Third Day of MAC Championships
ATHENS, OH – The University at Buffalo women's swimming and diving team finished with a pair of fifth-place finishes on Friday as the third night of the Mid-American Conference Championships concluded at Ohio University's Aquatic Center.
Caroline Simmons earned an NCAA B cut mark with her finish in the 200-yard freestyle finals. Simmons finished in a season-best 1:49.12 after posting another season-best of 1:50.48 earlier in the day in the preliminary heats. Jordan Deren also reached the championship final of the 200-yard freestyle and finished eighth in 1:51.23. She set a season-best of 1:50.27 in the heats. Logan Mason finished fourth in the consolation final (12th overall) in a season-best 1:50.61.
Brynn Marecki attained a B cut in the preliminary round of the 100-yard breaststroke. Marecki turned in a 1:02.70 clocking to qualify fifth for the finals. In the championship race, she finished fifth in 1:03.21. Kelsey Barbour finished fifth in the consolation race (13th overall) in a season-best 1:04.38.
The Bulls also had a pair of consolation race champions as Alie Schirmers and Katelyn Pratt-Collins finished ninth overall in their events. Schirmers set a season-best in winning the 400-yard individual medley consolation race in 4:20.84 while Pratt-Collins finished second (10th overall) in 4:21.42, also a season-best. Pratt-Collins won the consolation final of the 100-yard backstroke in a season-best 56.20. Karly Moore finished fifth (14th overall in 56.90, also a season-best.
Ava Giachino competed in the consolation round of the three-meter diving event. She finished seventh (15th overall) at 216.30 points for her six-dive final session.
The Bulls remain in sixth place with 219.5 points, just three points behind fifth-place Akron. Ohio leads the meet with 443.5 points.
Competition concludes on Saturday.
