Tiffany Gowens Named Assistant Swimming Coach

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo head coach Andy Bashor has announced the hiring of Tiffany Gowens as an assistant coach. Gowens comes to Buffalo after coaching for Southern Illinois University and brings experience from an impressive collegiate swimming career at Texas A&M University.

Gowens was a two-year coach for fellow men's MAC rival school Southern Illinois University from 2007-2009, where she was the recruiting coordinator for both the men's and women's swimming teams and designed training plans for spring and distance groups. Most recently, Gowens was a high school coach in Bryan, Texas where she also taught high school accounting and business, but wanted to return to the Division I coaching scene.

Gowens had a stand out swimming career at Texas A&M from 2001-2005, where she was an NCAA All-American and a two-time Big 12 Champion in the 1650 freestyle and 800 freestyle relay. She also set a school record in the 400 meter freestyle, while with the Aggies.

"I am extremely happy that Tiffany will be a part of our staff and the UB Athletics family," said Bashor. "She brings a wealth of swimming and coaching experience to UB being a Big 12 individual champion, a NCAA All-American, and coaching at successful programs. Tiffany compliments our coaching staff and will help take the success of UB Swimming and Diving to new heights."

Gowens earned her bachelor of science in kinesiology, along with a minor in business in 2005 and earned an I-Teach-Texas Alternative Certification for Business and Physical Education for grades 8-12 in July of 2009.
