Meili Carpenter Named MAC Scholar-Ahlete of the Week

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo senior Meili Carpenter was named the Mid-American Conference's Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Week for the week of November 30-December 6. Carpenter won the award for the second consecutive week, after an impressive performance at the Zippy Invite.

Carpenter swept the diving events at the University of Akron's Zippy Invitational, setting a meet and pool record in one of the victories. Carpenter opened the meet with a record-setting victory on the one-meter board scoring 311.45 points, the only diver to score over 300 points in the event and establishing new meet and pool records. Carpenter also won the three-meter event on Saturday with a total score of 316.65. Carpenter remains undefeated on the one-meter board thus far this season.

The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.

The team will take the rest of December off to concentrate on final exams and training. UB will be back in action on January 16, 2010 when they travel to Niagara.
