Bulls End Run at MAC Tournament with Loss to Miami

AKRON, OH – The University at Buffalo softball team wrapped up their season and their Cinderella run at the MAC tournament with a 17-1 loss to Miami tonight at Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio. Seniors Sharon BarrKristen GallipaniJaime Sheffler and Katie Ivancich all played in their final game in Blue and White.

The Bulls came out swinging, putting two hits up in the bottom of the first inning as Kristin Waldron and Alyssa Ward each made contact but couldn't put up a score. Miami scored a run in the top of the first and never looked back, scoring five unanswered runs in the bottom of the second, and six more in the bottom of the third to run away with the game. They put up five more in the top of the fifth to finish their scoring spree. Barr scored the only Buffalo run off a solo home run in the bottom of the second to put the Bulls on the board, but that would be it for runs. Waldron added another hit for Buffalo, as did Taylor Franich and Gallipani.

The Bulls went through their pitching line-up, as Terese Diaz earned the start, but Barr and Kate Kraus also saw action on the mound. Buffalo struggled in the circle, as the Redhawks scored 17 runs off 15 hits, compared to Buffalo's one run off six hits.

Having lost two games, the Bulls are now eliminated from the MAC tournament. The Bulls finish their 2010 season with a record of 21-34 ( 9-15 MAC) after making their second ever appearance in MAC post-season play.
