Starakiewicz Named to Academic All-MAC Tennis Squad
BUFFALO, NY – For the second consecutive season, the University at Buffalo's Wojciech Starakiewicz has been named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team. The league announced its six-member team from its Cleveland headquarters this morning.
Starakiewicz, a senior communication major with a 3.86 grade point average, completed his final season in Buffalo with a 19-11 singles record and was 16-13 in doubles play. The 19 wins by the Warsaw, Poland native were the most in his three years with the Bulls. He finished with career records of 46-29 in singles and 46-30 in doubles. Additionally, Starakiewicz was a second-team All-MAC honoree in 2012 after earning first-team honors in 2010 and 2011. He was also named to the Academic All-MAC list in 2011 following his junior season.
The Bulls finished the 2011-12 season with an 11-10 record and were 4-1 in the Mid-American Conference, earning the top seed at the league's tournament for the second time in the last three seasons. The Bulls fell in the championship match to Western Michigan on April 28.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments from the current season only are considered. The Academic All-MAC team is voted on by the league's faculty athletic representatives.
