Bulls Extend Winning Streak to Four
A pair of victories by the University at Buffalo's men's tennis team extended UB's winning streak to four matches. UB played its first home outdoor match on Wednesday, downing St. Bonaventure, 7-0. The Bulls then traveled to Poughkeepsie where they defeated Marist with a 5-2 decision. The Bulls are now 5-7 overall with Mid-American Conference play beginning this weekend.
Hove, Starakiewicz, Vereshchaga Go Unbeaten
Three UB players had undefeated weeks for the Bulls in the St. Bonaventure and Marist matches. Vusa Hove and Wojciech Starakiewicz both went 4-0 claiming two singles and two doubles victories. Hove, playing at second singles, scored a "double-bagel" 6-0, 6-0 win over Luis Guevara of St. Bonaventure, winning in 45 minutes. He then followed with a 7-5, 7-6 victory over Marist's Joris Van Eck. Starakiewicz did not allow more than three games against him in any set in his wins over SBU's Elliot Fanshel and Marist's Matt Himmelsbach, taking both contests in straight sets. Hove also combined with Damien David at first doubles and Starakiewicz teamed with Travis Zappia at second doubles in their wins over the Bonnies and Red Foxes. Freshman singles specialist Ivan Vereshchaga won twice, including rallying for a win over St. Bonaventure's Miguel Suarez, 6-1, 7-5. Suarez double faulted on his final four service attempts after Vereshchaga had forced the 12th game to a deuce score. Vereshchaga won a second-set tiebreaker over Marist's Will Reznek on Saturday.
David Nearing 20 Wins
With his 6-4, 6-4 victory over St. Bonaventure's Oscar Yanez on Wednesday, freshman Damien David won his 18th singles match of the season. David is now 18-7, after completing the fall tournament season with an 11-2 mark. Vusa Hove in 2010 and Kirill Kolomyts in 2009 each finished the season with 20 singles wins, the last two to reach the plateau. Nikesh Singh Panthlia won 24 matches in the 2008 season. Mike Rockman won 20 matches as a freshman in 2004.
Bulls Host Rockets in MAC Opener

With a forecast temperatures in the upper 40s, the match will likely be held indoors at the Miller Tennis Center. Toledo scored a 7-0 win at Dayton on Friday in their most recent action. The Rockets are 14-7 as they head into the contest with the Bulls. UB fell to Toledo by a 4-3 count in the semifinals of last season's MAC Championships in the last meeting between the two teams.
