PRINCETON, NJ – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team completed play on Sunday afternoon at the Princeton Invitational with one match in the B flight singles championship.
Freshman Damien David went three sets in the championship match against Penn State's Tomas Hanzlik falling 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. David completed the three-day tournament with a 3-1 record. On Friday, David knocked off Penn's Phil Law, 6-1, 6-1. He scored two wins on Saturday with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Chris Young of Penn State in the quarterfinals and a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Winston Lin of Columbia in the semifinal round.
"This was a good start for our team," said head coach Lee Nickell. "We got better as the weekend went on and we know what we need to do to improve. I am proud of Damien's tournament, it was a great start to the career."
The Bulls host the UB Invitational next Friday through Sunday at the University Tennis Center.
