HANOVER, NH – University at Buffalo sophomore Kristof Custersscored a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Dartmouth's Chris Ho to take the Flight D singles title on Sunday at the Dartmouth Invitational at the Boss Tennis Center.
Custers' victory capped an undefeated 3-0 weekend as he was the lone UB singles player to reach a championship match. Custers opened play with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Spencer Lunghino of Middlebury on Friday and scored a "double bagel" 6-0, 6-0 win over Tony Sheng of Amherst in Saturday's semifinal round.
The Bulls concluded the singles tournament with two additional wins in singles play. Sophomore Alex Kalinin scored a 7-6 (4), 6-2 win over Bill Kring of Boston University in Flight B and junior Mitch Zenaty knocked off Dylan Page of Williams, 6-0, 6-2.
"We are proud of Kristof for winning his flight," said head coach Lee Nickell. "We are also happy with how Alex and Mitch finished the weekend. We still need to work on fighting adversity and taking away some of the easy mistakes. All in all, it was a good weekend."
The Bulls return to Hanover for the ITA Regional Championships starting on October 15.
