Brendan Murphy enters his third season with the UB program mentoring the Bulls’ goalkeepers, and is now entering his first season as the head assistant to interim head coach Dave Hesch.  

Murphy was goalkeeper coach for Niagara in 2008 and 2009 as the Purple Eagles posted a school record for wins in 2008 and reached the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship match in 2009. 

At Niagara, Murphy coached John Fiutowski, who led all NCAA goalkeepers in saves and was 12th in save percentage in 2008.  

Since 2009 Murphy has worked with the Amherst Soccer Association, creating Amherst Academy, a technical training program for players of all ages. Recently, he became the Director of Coaching for the ASA. He has also directed programs for TOPSoccer (The Outreach Program for Soccer), a soccer program for children with disabilities. He earned USSF A license in 2011 and National Youth License in May of 2012.

Murphy brings a successful playing career with him after winning the 1999 NCAA Division III National Championship for St. Lawrence University as the squad went 22-0-0.  He set school records for highest career winning percentage for a starting goalkeeper (.976) going 41-1-0 and finished with a career goals against average of 0.59 while with the Saints. 

A Western New York native, Murphy graduated from Williamsville North High School in 1998 and earned his bachelor’s degree from St. Lawrence in 2002. He also taught English Literature at The Park School of Buffalo in 2007 and 2008. He now lives in Amherst with his wife Jessica, one year old daughter Nora and a son on the way due in November.
