BUFFALO, NY - Former Buffalo Bull Andy Tiedt signed a professional contact with the Rochester Lancers of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL). He joins former UB assistant coach Jim Hesch, who was promoted to the head coaching position at Rochester on October 12.
Tiedt, a 2011 graduate, came to Buffalo as a junior after starting his college career at Binghamton. The Akron, NY native was a major impact on the UB offense, scoring two game-winning goals in just his first season with the team. Then as a senior, he led the team with five goals and also dished out four assists while starting in all 18 games and leading the Bulls to the Mid-American Conference tournament semifinal.
Hesch, the brother of current UB head coach David Hesch, joined the team last season after he spent 10 years as the head coach at Canisius, becoming the school's all-time wins leader in 2007. He comes to Rochester with an extensive career in the indoor soccer world.
He played in the National Professional Indoor Soccer League from 1995-2002, which included a stint with the Buffalo Blizzard from 1999-2000. In 2000, Hesch played in 38 games and tallied 21 goals wih 14 assists. He played with the Harrisburg Heat from 1996-99 and was named an NPSL All-Star in the 1997-98 season after posting 119 points, the eighth-best single-season total in Heat history. In 2002, Hesch captured a Major Indoor Soccer League championship as a member of the Philadelphia Kixx, tallying 36 points in 28 games.
The Lancers season starts this Saturday, November 3, against the Syracuse Silver Knights at 7pm. The Lancers home opener is next Saturday, November 10 against Chicago Soul FC. Game time is 7 pm at the Blue Cross Arena. All games will also be on MISLLive.com.
