BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo and visiting Duquesne University battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie in non-conference men's soccer action at a rainy UB Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half, Duquesne drew first blood in the opening minute of the second half. Duquesne's Simon Gomez took a pass from Tyler Tompkins in front of the net and connected on a 15-yard shot past UB goalkeeper Nick Fetterman.
The Bulls tied the match in the 69th minute. Junior Nate Woods scored on a header in the box as he redirected a pass from freshman Ian Stroan past Duquesne goalkeeper Chris Torres to knot the match at 1-1. The goal was Woods' first of the season.
From there, neither team was able to score, although both teams had chances turned away in the closing minutes of regulation and the two overtimes.
Fetterman stopped five shots for the Bulls (4-5-1) while Torres collected six saves for the Dukes (4-3-2).
UB outshot Duquesne, 21-16, while also collecting six corner kicks to the Dukes' three. Five of UB's six corners came in the second half with the other in the first overtime.
Sam Craven had four shots for UB with Woods taking three. Stefan Lundberg had seven shots for Duquesne.
The Bulls travel to Bowling Green on Saturday for their next match.
