Bulls Downed in Season Opener by Penn State, 5-0

COLUMBUS, OH – The University at Buffalo men's soccer team kicked off the 2010 season on Friday with a 5-0 loss to Penn State on Friday evening in the first round of the Bert and Iris Wolstein Classic at Ohio State University's Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.

Penn State jumped on the Bulls early in the contest, notching the opening goal just 3:23 into play. The Nittany Lions' Corey Hertzog beat UB goalkeeper Nick Fetterman with the first shot of the match to give Penn State an early lead.

The Nittany Lions added to their lead with two quick goals in the first 10 mintues of the second half. Drew Cost scored in the 52nd minute and Hertzog netted his second marker of the match three minutes later for a 3-0 advantage.

Penn State added two more goals in the second half in the 74th and 90th minutes.

The Bulls (0-1) were held to just two shots in the contest, one on goal by Anthony Johnson while Rich Wilson had the other Buffalo shot 

Fetterman collected six saves for the Bulls. Freshman Jeremy Figler made his debut in goal playing the final 15 minutes of the contest.

UB returns to the pitch on Sunday afternoon for the final round of the tournament against 18th-ranked Ohio State at 2:30 pm.
