Javon McCrea Named MAC East Division Player of the Week
BUFFALO, NY – For the second time this season, Javon McCrea was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week on Monday by the conference. The junior forward averaged 29 points, 10.5 rebounds, six blocked shots and 2.5 steals in games against Kent State and Akron.
In Buffalo's 83-81 overtime loss at Kent State, McCrea nearly posted UB's first ever triple-double. He finished with 32 points, 15 rebounds a career-best eight blocked shots. Seven of his rebounds were offensive, resulting in 10 second-chance points.
Against Akron, McCrea led the Bulls with 26 points, six rebounds, four blocks and three steals, handing Akron its first conference loss and snapping the Zips 19-game winning streak. He shot 13-of-18 from the field and scored 18 of his 26 points in the second half.
It's the fourth time McCrea has won player of the week honors in his career and the second time this season. He also took home the honor on Jan. 21. Will Regan (Dec. 10) and Tony Watson (Feb. 18) have also been named MAC Player of the Week this year.
Buffalo enters the final week of conference play 12-17 overall and 7-7 in the MAC. The Bulls will play their regular season home finale against Ohio on Tuesday night at Alumni Arena.
