Tony Watson Named MAC East Division Co-Player of the Week
BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo senior guard Tony Watson capped off his career week by earning Mid-American Conference East Division Co-Player of the Week honors. Watson averaged 27.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, four assists and a steal to help lead the Bulls to wins over Toledo and Miami (OH).
Watson scored 55 points over the two games, including 12 three-pointers. He shot 68 percent from the field (17-for-25) and 67 percent from beyond the arc (12-of-18). He was also a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line.
Against Toledo, Watson scored a then career-high 24 points, including six three-pointers and added five rebounds, two assists and a steal. After missing his first two three-pointers, He finished the game making 6-of-7 attempts.
The West Palm Beach, FL native topped that performance by scoring a career-best 31 points and added six assists in UB's 79-71 win at Miami on Saturday. Watson was a perfect 6-for-6 from the field in the first half, including 4-for-4 from beyond the arc. For the game, Watson shot 10-of-14 from the field and 6-of-9 from three. He scored UB's final five points of the game to help the Bulls pull away for the victory.
Watson is the third UB player to earn MAC Player of the Week honors this season. Will Regan won the award on Dec. 10 and Javon McCrea took home the honor on Jan. 21. It is the first time Watson has won the award.
Watson shared the honor with Chris Evans of Kent State who averaged 22 points and 13.5 rebounds on the week.
