Bulls Welcome in MAC West Leader Eastern Michigan
BUFFALO, NY - Coming off two straight crucial wins in the Mid-American Conference's East division, the Buffalo men's basketball team (10-6, 3-2 MAC) will begin play against the West Division Tuesday evening, squaring off against the co-division leader Eastern Michigan (9-10, 4-1 MAC). Tip off is set for 7 pm.
The Eagles have excelled under first-year head coach Rob Murphy, with its 4-1 start in conference play marks its best start in 14 years. Last time out, EMU ground Toledo's offense to a stop, converting a 15-14 halftime lead into a 41-38 final score over the Rockets. The Eagles own the conference's best scoring defense by a 12-point margin over the second place Ball State team, allowing just 49 points per game in the MAC. The stifling defense has helped to cover what is also the worst offense in the conference, posting just over 51 points per game and hitting the 65 point mark just three times in its 19 games. Darrell Lampley is the only Eagle in double figures for scoring, with 12.9 points per game, and forward Jamell Harris averages 5.4 points and a team-high 6.7 rebounds.
Buffalo finished 4-2 against the West division last season and comes into Tuesday's game with a two-game conference win streak and a four-game home win streak on the line. On Saturday, a skyward swat from Mitchell Watt on the final shot of the game preserved UB's 68-66 win at Bowling Green. Watt and Javon McCrea combined for 32 points, and McCrea put up his third double double of the season with 13 rebounds to go with his 16 points. Guard Jarod Oldham scored nine points and had six rebounds to give him 100 for the season, making him the fastest to 100 since Ryan Peterson in 1998.
In the all-time series, Buffalo owns a 9-8 advantage and has won three of the past four. Eastern won 78-65 in Ypsilanti last season. Tickets are still available for tonight's game.
