Bulls Hope to Zap Akron's Perfect Conference Record
BUFFALO, NY - Looking to shake off two straight road losses, the Buffalo men's basketball team (8-6, 1-2 MAC) returns to Alumni Arena Wednesday evening and hosts the East Division-leading Akron Zips (11-6, 3-0 MAC). The Bulls will aim to improve on a 6-1 home record while the Zips have won eight of its past nine games.
In the last game out, Buffalo turned the ball over 13 times in the second half alone as Miami (OH) erased a three-point halftime deficit and pulled out a 52-51 win in Oxford, OH. Javon McCrea had 16 points and Mitchell Watt added a double double of 15 points and 10 rebounds. The loss came on the heels of a 60-52 loss at Ohio on Wednesday. The team has scored less than 60 points only three times all season, with all three resulting in losses.
Akron enters with the only flawless record in the Mid-American Conference, and has done so in dramatic fashion. The Zips opened the conference slate with a five-point win at Miami (OH) before edging Bowling Green by one point and beating Kent State at home by five. A talented frontcourt of Zeke Marshall and Nikola Cvetinovic lead the way in both scoring and rebounding, with Marshall posting averages of 10.8 points and 5.1 rebounds, and Cvetinovic with 10.1 points and 6.0 rebounds. The duo are also the only two players who have started in all 17 games.
Tip off is set for 7 pm, and tickets are still available. Time Warner Cable SportsNet will be carrying the television broadcast, and fans can also tune into 1230 AM WECK with Josh Whetzel and Pete Lonergan on the call.
