BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo forward Javon McCrea was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Bulls to a pair of wins last week.
McCrea was instrumental in Buffalo's conference-opening win over Kent State on Saturday. The sophomore forward scored a game-high 25 points and added six rebounds, two assists and a blocked shot. He shot 6-of-7 from the field in the second half to help the Bulls erase an eight-point deficit. He scored seven of the Bulls' final 10 points of the game, including the basket to tie the contest at 62 and again on UB's next possession to give Buffalo the lead for good, 64-62.
McCrea played sparingly in Buffalo's 111-59 win over Buffalo State on Wednesday. The sophomore forward had seven points, six rebounds and two assists in only nine minutes.
It marks the first time McCrea has earned the conference's weekly honor.
For the season, McCrea is averaging 17.5 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. He leads the MAC in field goal percentage (.625) and ranks third in scoring and fifth in rebounding.
The Bulls hit the road for a pair of games this week. UB will play at Ohio on Wednesday and Miami (OH) on Saturday.
