University at Buffalo junior guard Tony Watson was named to the Academic All-MAC men's basketball team on Friday as voted on by the league's Faculty Athletic Representatives. The West Palm Beach, FL native is a management major. He has a 3.2 grade point average.

Bulls Season Ends at Oakland in Second Round of CIT
Junior Tony Watson’s career-high 19 points were not enough on Saturday afternoon as the Bulls fell in the second round of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament to Oakland, 84-76, at the O’rena. The Bulls had four players in double figures, but end the season with a 20-11 record, the second straight season UB has eclipsed the 20-win mark.

Despite a solid second half, the Buffalo Bulls could not rebound from the Ohio Bobcats’ laser precision from deep in the first half, losing in the Mid-American Conference semifinal round 77-74 in front of a crowd of 8,513 at Quicken Loans Arena. Mitchell Watt scored a career-high 32 points in the losing effort.

Tony Watson scored Buffalo's final nine points of the game, including six straight free throws in the final minute of the game to seal a 74-70 win over Akron Wednesday evening. The Bulls (18-9, 11-4 MAC) came back from a 38-34 halftime deficit to pull the road upset over the East Division-leading Zips (20-10, 12-3 MAC). The Buffalo men’s basketball team (16-7, 9-3 MAC) was unable to overcome a streaky-shooting Kent State team (19-6, 9-3 MAC) that hit 59 percent of its shots in the second half and hit seven three pointers. That helped to erase an eight-point halftime lead by Buffalo and pull out a 76-71 win on Tuesday night to snap the Bulls’ eight-game winning streak. Bulls Madness Kicks Off the Start of Basketball Season
The Buffalo basketball preseason kicked off in a big way Saturday night with Bulls Madness. An energetic crowd was on hand to meet the 2011-12 men’s and women’s team, including the nine new faces suiting up for UB this season. Student fans were able to join in with three of the four contests during the evening – a shooting contest, a relay race and the three-point competition.

University at Buffalo forward Javon McCrea has been named one of college basketball’s Top 100 players by CBSSports.com. The sophomore big man is ranked 91st on the list of the nation’s top players and is the highest ranked of any Mid-American Conference player.

Reggie Witherspoon to Receive 2011 Newman Award
University at Buffalo men’s basketball coach Reggie Witherspoon has been selected to receive the 2011 Newman Award. The award is made in recognition of his outstanding service to UB and the Western New York community.
