KENT, OH – The University at Buffalo men's basketball team will play the first of two straight road games at Kent State on Thursday night. The Bulls enter the game with a conference record of 7-5, two games behind Kent State who sits atop the standings with a 9-3 mark in Mid-American Conference play.
Buffalo is coming off an 80-65 win over Milwaukee in a Sears BracketBuster matchup on Saturday night. Zach Filzen scored a career-high 30 points to lead four Bulls in double-figures. Filzen has been red hot for Buffalo – averaging nearly 21 points over the past nine games.
In order to win on Thursday, the Bulls will have to do something they never have – win at Kent State's M.A.C. Center. Buffalo is 0-13 all time at Kent State's arena. The Golden Flashes have been tough to beat at home as they sport a 54-6 record over the past four seasons.
Kent State is led by Justin Greene who is averaging 15.5 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. The Golden Flashes lead the MAC in field goal percentage defense (.408) and three-point field goal defense (.313). Something will have to give as Buffalo leads the conference in both field goal percentage (.492) and three-point field goal percentage (.397).
Buffalo won the last meeting, 79-54, back on Jan. 19 at Alumni Arena. Byron Mulkey paced the Bulls with a then career-high 27 points. Mitchell Watt added 13 points and a career-high eight blocked shots.
