Bulls Look to Even Conference Record on the Road at Miami
OXFORD, OH - The Buffalo men's basketball team will open its conference road schedule Thursday night as it travels to Millett Hall to take on the Miami (OH) Redhawks. Both teams are coming off multiple overtime games, with Miami beating Ohio in triple overtime and Buffalo falling to Bowling Green in double overtime.
Despite its 6-9 overall record, Miami will come in to the game battled tested with the third hardest strength of schedule in the nation, including games against Duke, Ohio State, Kansas and San Diego State along with local rivals Dayton and Xavier. The Redhawks have three players who average double figures in points along with six or more rebounds per game. The team is keyed by Julian Mavunga, who leads the team in points (12.9) and rebounds (6.7).
It has been the Buffalo offense that has shined so far this season, with league-highs in field goal percentage (52.1) and three-point field goal percentage (36.7). Aside from the impressive numbers, it has been the depth that has carried the Bulls to an 8-5 record and over 74 points per game, with the bench pitching in 31.2 points per game in the last four outings.Zach Filzen leads the team with 15.7 points per game and Byron Mulkey has been another standout, posting an impressive line of 14.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 3.4 steals per game.
In the all-time series, Miami leads 19-7, including a 73-59 win over the Bulls in the MAC tournament last season. The Redhawks have won two straight after the Bulls had a three-game winning streak from 2008 to 2010.
Fans can tune in to 1230 WECK with Josh Whetzel on the call. Tip off is set for 7 pm. A win by Buffalo would lead to a six-way tie in the East Division, with all teams being squared away with a 1-1 record.
