Bulls Face First Road Test at Baylor

In a matchup fit for Wall Street, the Bulls will meet the Bears on Saturday night as Buffalo makes its first trip to Waco, TX to take on Baylor.

It is the second meeting between the teams as Baylor knocked off Buffalo, 34-21, at UB Stadium in 2007.

The Bulls are 1-0 and are coming off a 31-0 win over Rhode Island on Thursday night. Sophomore quarterback Jerry Davis, a first-year starter, threw for 302 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Bulls. His favorite target was junior Marcus Rivers who pulled in 10 catches for 155 yards and a touchdown.

Baylor is 1-0 on the season and is coming off a 34-3 win over Sam Houston State.

It marks the second straight season the Bulls will open the road portion of their schedule in the Lone Star State. Buffalo defeated UTEP, 23-17, at the Sun Bowl to open the 2009 campaign.

Both Buffalo and Baylor feature a no-huddle, spread offense. Head Coach Jeff Quinn expects the game to have a much faster pace than the opener.

"I feel that this matchup between our football program and their football program is going to be at a much higher pace when it comes to speed." Quinn said. "They're a spread offense. They like to spread the field with the personnel sets that they have. They have some personnel that execute it very well." 

The Bears are led by shifty quarterback Robert Griffin who threw for 242 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 59 yards and another score against Sam Houston State last week.

Saturday's game will be a homecoming for eight UB players who hail from the state of Texas. Alan Hayes (Houston), Terrell Jackson (Temple), Ray Anthony Long (Houston), Terry Peden (Houston), Brandon Thermilus (Flower Mound), Josh Thomas (Cedar Hill), Graham Whinery (Arlington) and Ed Young (Fort Worth) are all from the Lone Star State.

"What we need to do is really look at ourselves," Quinn said. "We need to make sure we do a good job identifying the strengths of Baylor's offense, defense and special teams and really clue our kids in on those things in order for us to be successful."

The game kicks off at 7:00 pm (EST) on Saturday night at Floyd Casey Stadium. Fans can catch the game live on Fox College Sports (channel 150 on Time Warner) or on the radio at WECK 1230 AM in Buffalo or WHTK 1280 AM and 107.3 FM in Rochester.
