Bulls Open the Season Against Rhode Island on Thursday Night
BUFFALO, NY - The UB football team will take
the field on Thursday night against Rhode Island for the first time
under new head coach Jeff Quinn. The Bulls' head coach promises to
bring a high-energy, exciting brand of football to UB Stadium and
it starts against the Rams on Thursday night.
Quinn recognizes the hard work his players and staff
have put in during the offseason and feels his team is ready for
the challenges that lie ahead.
"It's exciting for me to be able to lead this team. I started
this thing back in December, having an opportunity to be the head
coach at UB," Quinn said. "We've worked extremely hard in
developing our football program and our players."
Rhode Island comes to Western New York coming off a 1-10
season in 2009. Despite the Rams struggles a season ago, Quinn
feels Rhode Island will be a tough test for the Bulls.
"The two teams are very similar in some respects," Quinn said.
"They run the spread with an open, fast-paced offense. I expect
them to come in and challenge our defense."
Even though Quinn is known as an offensive-minded coach, he
realizes with nine starters returning on the other side of the
ball, the defense might be the strength of this team.
"I look forward to seeing a really strong effort out of our
defense in terms of their pursuit and relentless effort to the
football," Quinn said. "Creating turnovers and creating
opportunities and generating momentum and excitement that is so
important to build on in a football game."
This is the fourth meeting between the teams and the first
since the 1959 season. The Bulls hold a 3-0 series lead.
