2012: Came into a starting role before an injury to his throwing arm sidelined him early in the season... he will redshirt and return in 2013... though his 2012 stats do not count toward career totals, he made four starts and struck out 24 batters over 21 innings pitched, walking only six... struck out seven batters over five innings at Morehead State (3/3)... struck out a career-high eight batters over five innings against St. Joseph’s (3/17).
2011: Arrived as one of the team’s best strikeout artists and best bullpen options, also making two mid-week starts... appeared in 22 games and threw 42.2 innings, striking out 43 batters in that span... won his first game of the season after allowing one earned run through four innings against St. Bonaventure (3/22)... continued his success against Big 4 opponents, getting a complete-game win against Niagara with six strikeouts and no walks in seven innings... had five scoreless relief appearances... won six games and posted a 2.80 earned run average with 64 strikeouts in 70.2 innings for the Lorain County Ironmen of the Prospect League over the summer.
Previous School: Attended Erie Community College and Genesee Community College... won the Region III Division II Pitcher of the Year in 2010.
High School: Earned three letters and served as a captain for Starpoint High School and head coach Tim Racey... played pitcher and shortstop... as a senior, he batted .391 with two home runs, and also struck out 86 batters and won seven games as a pitcher... also played basketball.
Personal: Born June 9, 1990... son of Kevin and Mary Hughes... has one sister, Ashley... majoring in Social Science with a concentration on health and human services... also recruited by Lynn, St. Bonaventure, Mercyhurst, Long Island and Ashland University... his non-sports heroes are his parents.
