Big Weekend Nets Kanzler MAC East Player of the Week Honor
BUFFALO, NY - After setting a program record for hits in a game and batting .733 over Buffalo's three-game series against Eastern Michigan, junior outfielder Jason Kanzler was named the Mid-American Conference's East Division Player of the Week. The honor was the first ever for the Penfield, NY native and it's the third time this season that a UB player earned a weekly MAC award.
Kanzler was the epitome of a tough out in Buffalo's three-game series against Eastern Michigan, batting .733 (11-15) for the weekend. The junior outfielder set a program record for hits in a game when he went 6-6 in the Bulls' 18-3 win over EMU on Friday, driving in two runs and coming just a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.
He followed that up with a 3-5 performance on Saturday with three more RBI and another chance to hit for the cycle thanks to another double and home run. Kanzler ended the weekend with two hits and a run driven in on Sunday. Along with the 11 hits, Kanzler also stole four bases and continued his exemplary play in center field, stealing almost as many hits in the field as he had at the plate. Jason is now batting .332 with 32 RBI for the season, is slugging .529, and has 17 stolen bases.
Heading into the final MAC series of the season, UB will play Bowling Green (19-31, 8-16 MAC) on Thursday needing to win at least two of the three games to have a chance.
Before that, though, Buffalo will close out the Big Four season with a Tuesday doubleheader against St. Bonaventure. Game one is scheduled for noon.
