Adam Skonieczki Named MAC East Division Player of the Week

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo senior center fielder Adam Skonieczki has been named the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.

The senior had an impressive weekend as the Bulls swept divisional rival Miami (OH) in UB's final conference home series, snapping a four-game skid. The series sweep was the Bulls' first sweep of a conference opponent since the 2005 season. During the weekend, Skonieczki batted .667 and 1.250 slugging percentage including two doubles, two home runs, four runs scored and seven RBIs.

In Buffalo's 16-10 victory over Miami on Friday, Skonieczki went 4-for-5 with a pair of runs scored including a season-high six RBIs. In the bottom of the first, Skonieczki belted his fourth home run of the season, a three-run shot to dead center for an early 4-0 lead. His performance led the Bulls to their 21st victory this season, which broke the school record for most wins in a season since the program's reinstatement in 2000.

On Saturday afternoon, Skonieczki went 2-for-3, scoring the game-winning run off strong base running from second base off an RBI single by freshman Tom Murphy as the Bulls defeated Miami, 3-2.

In Sunday's series-clinching 5-1 victory over the RedHawks, Skonieczki tacked on a run off a solo shot down the left field line for his fifth home run of the season and 10th of his career to give the Bulls a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the third.

Through Sunday's sweep of the RedHawks, Skonieczki occupies a spot in nine UB career categories. He is currently third in games played (190), at bats (707) and hits (225), tied for third in doubles (40), fourth in runs scored (128) and total bases (311), sixth in triples (8), seventh in RBIs (105) and eighth in walks (71). For his performance this season, Skonieczki ranks in the top ten of two school single-season records including seventh in hits (68) and ninth in total bases (100).

Skonieczki's selection is the second time in his career and the sixth time a Bull has been chosen as the MAC Player or Pitcher of the Week this season, which is a program season-high. Senior second baseman Brad Agustin and senior pitcher Chaz Mye have received the honor twice this season with senior pitcher Pierre Miville-Deschenes receiving the honor once.

The Bulls (23-26, 9-15 MAC) will hit the road for their final five games of the 2010 regular season. On Tuesday, May 18, UB will travel to Big Four rival St. Bonaventure for a seven-inning doubleheader with the first pitch at 1:00 pm.
