Summer 2012 Recreational Sports

UB Rec Sports - Come out and PLAY!

THE INTRAMURAL SPIRIT OF PLAY

“Team sport activities find their origin in the basic human need for the spirit of play.  Winning and losing are mere outcomes of this play spirit.  Abusive language towards officials and manipulation of the rules are “not part of the game.”  What is part of the game is the pure satisfaction of participation, getting fit and enhancing friendships.  Without your opponent, you have no game, no contest, and no fun.  You are indebted to them, as they are to you.  The spirit of play then is based on cooperation.  Upholding high standards of integrity and fair play acknowledges this idea of cooperative play.  All players are encouraged to exercise good judgment in caring for the safety of others as well as themselves.  At the University at Buffalo an intentional foul is considered cheating and a gross offense against the spirit of play.  The goal of lifetime sports for all players may have more meaning than that of a win or loss, the memory of which often fades quickly.  All players are asked to participate within the context of this spirit of play.

Why do I keep getting re-directed to www.imleagues.com?

imleagues is a new website specifically designed for college intramural departments. A few of imleagues’ features include: online sign up and scheduling, customizable team pages, message boards, and much more.

All intramural participants will be required to create an account on imleagues.com. imleagues offers a live support button in the top right corner of all pages, please use this button if you encounter any difficulties.

To create an imleagues account:

  • Go to http://www.imleagues.com/Schools/buffalo/registration
  • Click on the “Sign Up” link.
  • Enter your information and use your school e-mail address (@buffalo.edu) and submit your information.
  • Check your school e-mail account for an e-mail with your temporary password from info@imleagues.com. Make sure to check your spam folder too if the e-mail is not in your inbox. If you do not receive the e-mail with your temporary password, add info@imleagues.com to your list of contacts, go to http://www.imleagues.com/ForgetPassword.aspx and enter your school e-mail address to have your password re-sent to your school e-mail address.
  • Log into imleagues.com by clicking on the link at the bottom of the e-mail. You will be prompted to change your password upon your first login.
  • After changing your password, the University at Buffalo school link should pop up. Click “Join School”.

How to sign up for an intramural sport:

  1. Log in to your imleagues.com account.

You can join the sport one of three ways:

  1. Find the team and the captain’s name on the division page and click on the button “Join Team”. Check the box that states “I Agree [to the] School’s Terms and Conditions”, enter your Person Number into the text box for “Please Enter Student ID”, and click submit.

    1. Look up the captain’s Player Card, view his teams, and request to join any of his teams that you are interested in.
    2. Accept a captain’s request to join his team.
    3. Create a team (For team captains)

  1. Captains can invite members to join their teams in two (2) ways:

    • If the student has already registered on imleagues: Click on the “Invite Members” link on the team page, search for their name, and invite them.
    • If the student has not yet registered on imleagues: Click on the “Invite Members” link on the team page, then click the “Can’t find someone? Click here to invite by email address”, and input the student’s school e-mail address.

    2. Players joining a team

Players can join their teams in three (3) ways:

    3. Players joining as a Free Agent

Free agents wanting to join a team can follow the procedures listed in “PLAYERS JOINING A TEAM”. It is also recommended to attend the Intramural Sports Captains Meetings (dates and times are available in the Intramural Sports section on www.ubrecreation.com) for the sport you are interested to play in.  It is up to the captain’s discretion to allow you, the free agent, into his team. Personnel of Intramural Sports will not assign any free agents into any teams.
