It just occurred to me that as students, you only have one full week of school in September. Yesterday was Labor Day, next week is the full week and then there is a day off for Rosh Hashana and then one for Yom Kippur. What an easy transition back to school.
Speaking of easy, registration for intramural sports is easy and you can do it all from the comfort of your bed if you want to. First, get your laptop and then visit imleagues.com/buffalo for all of the sport league offerings this semester. If you don't have an account, you will need to create one but then just find the division you want to play in and click +Create Team and follow the prompts to create your team. If you can't form your own team, you can join as a free agent and find someone to pick you up. For more detailed instructions, you can visit ubrecreation.com/intramuralsand click the different dropdown options under the intramurals tab.
It has been one week and a busy one at that. I hope that everyone has their classes worked out and has checked into the intramural leagues this semester. Remember, you can register online at imleagues.com/buffalo. We are now taking online payments as well as payments at the recreation desk in Alumni Arena.
For the football home opener on September 8th, we will have a tent, games and prizes on True Blue Avenue during the tailgating. Stop by and get some free food from True Blue and win some prizes from us!
It has been a while but the summer seems to have flown by. Imleagues.com is updated for the fall 2012 semester. You can check out the leagues and divisions for each sport offered. Make sure that you create and pay for your team by the registration deadline to secure your spot. The sooner the better because once a division fills, that's it. It also helps to prevent any scheduling problems when you guys sign up earlier.
We are also looking for more officials so if you have experience either playing or officiating a sport or two and want to make some extra money, you can check out the officials page for more information.
Any questions, contact Ayla (ajwiley@buffalo.edu) or Michelle (mbernas@buffalo.edu).
Yesterday was officially the first day of summer and you could definitely feel it if you stepped outside of air conditioned buildings. With the sun out and the temperatures above 80° again today, make sure you keep hydrated and use sunscreen. Be smart in the sun.
Playoff games for the first summer session start next week and will finish the last week in June. Make sure that all team members have their UB ID, rec pass if required and any required equipment.
The start of the second summer session is coming up quickly. Make sure you check out the available leagues at imleagues.com/buffalo. Get your team created and paid for by the registrations deadlines to guarantee your team a spot in the league of your choice!

Playoffs will continue through this week and finish up next Monday at the latest. If you are still playing in playoffs, good luck to you. If you are participating in Oozefest and/or Springfest this weekend, have fun and be safe!
The winner of the What's In A Name? contest is The Sass Masters, with 90 votes on the facebook page. That's pretty impressive. The Sass Masters is a co-rec carefree volleyball team. Unfortunately, they are out of the playoffs for their league but they are winners of the pizza. That's a pretty good prize in my book.
As for the winner of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament....we will find that out tonight. Will you be watching?
The men's power volleyball league is the first to be done with playoffs. Congratulations to V=IR for winning that league.
I hope you all enjoyed your spring break, either in Buffalo or someplace else. A break from school work is always nice.
Outdoor sports are starting this week. Soccer divisions filled completely but there are still some spots that we would like to fill for football. Men's advance has openings on Saturdays at 2pm and co-rec carefree has openings on Saturdays at 3pm. If you would like to play in either of these divisions, please e-mail Ayla at ajwiley@buffalo.eduso she can plan for the division and alert 130 Alumni Arena that there will be late payments. After you e-mail, you will need to bring your roster (doesn't have to be complete yet) and payment to 130 Alumni Arena.
Playoffs for some indoor sports start and others have make-up games this week so be aware of any schedule changes.
What's In A Name?contest voting this week! Take a look at the poll on the facebook page to vote for the team name that you think is best. Like the page while you are there! Voting ends on Friday, March 30th.
Well, it was quite cold the past two days but now my phone says that it is 62 degress outside. Do you know what that means? It's just about time for outdoor sports to begin! Registration for Outdoor Soccer and Two-Hand-Touch Football ends this Friday so make sure you bring your roster and payment in before you leave for spring break. Maybe you are just going a couple hours or maybe you are going out of the country, but since my spring break plans fell though, I will be making the schedules for outdoor sports. What that means is... definitely get your teams all registered before I start making schedules.
The other things starting soon will be playoff games for indoor sports. Some games will be starting the week you get back from spring break, so be on the lookout for those schedules during break. Some sports have a couple more weeks to go in the regular season, so those may just be the skeleton until I know the rankings.
Enjoy the warm weather!
Happy Leap Day! If you haven't checked your e-mail lately, please do. There should be an e-mail waiting regarding eligibility for intramural sports. This pertains especially to alumni who wish to continue playing. Intramural sports were open to student and faculty/staff with recreation permits. We found out that people were playing that were not eligible and started suspending those who were in violation. In order to allow alumni to continue playing, Michelle has been working feaverishly for the past few days to put in place a new policy. Check your e-mail for further instructions. Basically, it will cost alumni only $25/semester or $50/year (including summer) to purchase an Intramural Sports Permit. Not a bad deal considering the price of other rec sport leagues out there in the "real world." The e-mail you received should give you all of the details but if you have more questions, send an e-mail or stop by the recreation desk.
Some of you joined your team on imleagues.com and haven't looked at it again. I get that it is one more thing to check with ublearns, your e-mail and all your other responsibilities. Who am I kidding? More like facebook, twitter, pinterest, UB memes, stumbleupon. But did you know that your scores get updated which in turn updates the rankings. You can see how you are doing. You can even use it to add a MVP for each game. And, you can even link your imleagues account to your facebook so you can log in with facebook (one less login to remember) and choose to have imleagues post on your facebook wall.
Soon we will be getting some photos up on the facebook page and on imleagues. Feel free to take some photos and send them in for us to put up. Team photos are good and so are action shots! Good luck to the teams playing tomorrow and Sunday and have a good weekend!
Tell us and win a pizza party for your team! Hopefully you have gotten at least one e-mail about the contest that we have going on. Here is how to enter:
1. Have a creative team name. If you don't already, feel free to request a team name change on imleagues.com. The posted name must be the actual name you use on imleagues.com.
2. Like the UBIS facebook page http://www.facebook.com/ubintramuralsports
3. Post your team name with your sport. (Ex. Outdoor Soccer - Kick in the Grass)
4. Get everyone you can to like your post.
"Then what?" you ask. Our office staff will then take all of the top entrants and put them out to a final vote where you and your friends will be able to pick the final winner.
To be eligible: Your team name must be posted onto the UBIS Facebook page by March 9th. Final voting will the take place with the winner being picked on Friday March 30th.
What you get: A pizza partyfor your team! We'll bring the pizza to you after one of your games at either Clark Hall or Alumni Arena. We might even throw in some other fun swag. We'll also pick a winner from each of the other sports for some cool prizes!
Remember, keep it appropriate, have fun and get lots of "likes!"
Indoor games got off to a good start this week with only a few changes for this coming week in basketball and volleyball. If you noticed anything or have a suggestions, please feel free to e-mail me at ajwiley@buffalo.edu. An example of a suggestion that may not be so good is, "I would like free beers after every game." I know that would be fun and might get a little crazy but try to keep any suggestions realistic. For example, "Could you lower the dividers in the main gym for volleyball?"
What happens if your team cannot make a game? It happens. Something comes up like a club meeting that you forgot about or your whole team of pharmacy students has a conference. We get it, but please try to e-mail us as much in advance as possible so your team doesn't get a forfeit and so your opponent doesn't show up for no reason.
Outdoor registration is still going on for 2-Hand-Touch Football and Outdoor Soccer. There are only a few spots left for soccer, so if you want one of them, I recommend getting in to pay very soon! Football has a few more spots but registration has picked up lately, especially for Saturday divisions. Good thing it snowed or we might be kicking ourselves for not starting the outdoor seasons sooner.
Indoor games start tonight for basketball and volleyball! I hope you are excited to be playing this semester; I know I am. The rest of the indoor sports will have their first games later this week as well. If you want to play in any outdoor sports, they don't start until March, so you can still bring your payment to 130 Alumni Arena. Most of the schedules are done already with a few exceptions for basketball that will be complete as soon as we can get them sorted out.
Remember to be on time for your games, bring your student ID card and make sure you are on the roster. GOOD LUCK to all!
Indoor games start next MONDAY. There will not be any games on Sunday because of the Super Bowl. We know you want to watch those ads. Although, if you try to watch almost any youtube video, you'll see Super Bowl ads there, too. Schedules will be finalized in the next day or so. Good luck in your first games next week and remember, game time is forfeit time if you can't field a team, so be on time and you need to have team members on your roster before your game. Happy Super Bowl!
Happy February 1st everyone! It's a new month and if you know anyone who finished school in December, the degree conferal date is today. WooHoo! :P The snow didn't last very long. If you still have to register your team, do that. Spots are filling up but if you want to wait until the last possible second, (although I don't know why you would) this Friday at noon will be your last chance to pay. After that, we will be getting the schedules ready for the semester. Games start next week. No game will be going on Sunday though. We know you will probably be watching the super bowl. Although, statistics show that most of you would rather miss parts of the game, than any of the commericials.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I am excited for all of the snow...except for the part where I got stuck in my parking spot this morning.
Anyway, registration for indoor sports technically ended on Friday. Since there are still some spots open, we decided to let you guys and gals that forgot to pay for your team on time come in this week with your roster and payment to secure any spots that are left. Check out imleagues.com to see what is still open. Remember, we can move your team if your first choice isn't available but you want to move to a division that is open. Also, women definitely can play on men's team. The difference between co-rec and men's is that both genders have to play on a co-rec team; it doesn't matter for men's.
Oh, and don't forget to check out our facebook page here.
Just a tidbit of information that I got in my e-mail this morning: A company called Liquipel can waterproof your smartphone. It seems really cool!
Indoor soccer is almost completely filled with only two or three spots remaining for co-rec carefree but volleyball has lots of room left. What's up with that? As you hopefully know, registration for indoor sports ends tomorrow and preseason starts next week. Speaking of which, I have updated the preseason schedules as announcements in each sport on imleagues.com as well as posted them as PDFs on this website. Check under the intramurals tab towards the top of the page. Make sure you know when you are playing because you wouldn't want to miss that extra practice before the regular season starts. If you paid for your team already and forgot to sign up for a preseason game, you can stop by 130 Alumni and sign up for one there or e-mail Michelle at mbernas@buffalo.edu.
I noticed that there are quite a few teams forming on imleagues and I am very excited about that! However, not very many of those teams have submitted their roster and payment in 130 Alumni. For the teams that haven't paid yet, make sure you do so you get to play. For those of you who thought there wasn't space left because so many teams have been created, there is. You just have to create your team and pay before they do. The race is on.
Don't forget to sign up for a preseason time when you pay for your team!
This is the last week of registration for indoor sports so make sure you get to Alumni with your roster and payment. Remember, your roster doesn't have to be complete for you to finish the registration process and women are more than welcome to play on "men's" teams. (That's what I do!) Indoor Preseason starts next week so make sure you are all ready for that. You can sign up for a game when you complete the registration process in Room 130 of Alumni Arena.
We are looking for students who are interested in becoming officials. You do not need officiating experience but a knowledge of the sport is important. Training will be provided and there are opportunities for advancement. You can pick up an application from 130 Alumni Arena, from the bin on the wall outside of 156 Alumni Arena or get one from here. Scheduling is flexible - we understand that you have classes and exams.
There are 8 sports for you to try this semester at multiple levels of play. Did you play in high school? There is a league for you. Are you just starting out? There is a league for you, too. Sports include indoor soccer, outdoor soccer, volleyball, floor hockey, roller hockey, two-hand-touch football, and a two day softball tournament.
