UB Athletics Has Strong Presence at the Linda Yalem Run

BUFFALO, NY Last weekend, the University at Buffalo held its 23rd Annual Linda Yalem Run. The Linda Yalem Run is one of UB’s most enduring traditions, promoting personal safety in remembrance of former UB student Linda Yalem.

UB Athletics had another strong year supporting the event. Currently in his first year as Director of Athletics, Danny White served as race starter, sending off over 1,300 participants. Among the runners were student-athletes, coaches, and UB athletics staff members.

Across the entire event, UB Athletics had student-athletes from the rowing, men’s and women’s basketball, football, men’s and women’s cross country and track and field, men’s and women’s swimming and diving, and women’s tennis team helping to make the event a success. Those who did not run helped with the Kids Dash instead, and spread out along the race course to encourage the runners.

“Once again this year, we (UB Athletics) had a strong presence in the race and as volunteers,” said Kellie Peiper, Director of Student-Athlete Experience. “The strong presence sent a positive message towards the purpose of the event, of making smart choices. Seeing so many student-athletes was great and further shows their awareness of personal safety and its impact on a community.”

The Linda Yalem Run is one of many community service opportunities that the UB student-athletes will participate in to strengthen their connection with the Buffalo community.
